STERLING and KNOWLES

Sterling was Russel Wright's industrial ware of vitrified china. Restaurants, hotel and institutions used these pieces that included everything from ash trays to individual coffee bottles. Shown to the right are a salad plate in Cedar Brown and a platter in Straw Yellow. Knowles Esquire, a late version of Russel Wright's dinnerware, was in production until 1962. The Knowles designs (see click-on point below) were in pastel glazes, a departure from his previous earth-toned dinnerware. The designs are light, pleasant and accommodating.
